The Science Behind The Male Multiple Orgasm

The Science Behind The Male Multiple Orgasm

For years, multiple orgasms are something that both scientists and laypersons alike have viewed as being unique to women, not to mention a relatively common part of the female sexual experience. Indeed, as Masters and Johnson noted in their 1966 book Human Sexual Response:

“The human female frequently is not content with one orgasmic experience during episodes of [clitoral stimulation]…Many well-adjusted women enjoy a minimum of three of four orgasmic experiences before they reach apparent satiation.” (p. 64)

As it turns out, however, multiple orgasms are not a distinctly female phenomenon after all.

15 Scientific Facts About Orgasm

Think you know everything there is to know about the topic of orgasm? For today’s post, I’ve compiled a list of 15 of the most fun and interesting scientific facts about the big O. Do you have other favorite orgasm facts? Please share them below!

1. Multiple orgasms are real. In fact, it is thought that most women are capable or having more than one orgasm in a row. Can Men Have Multiple Orgasms Too?

Can Men Have Multiple Orgasms Too?

Scientists have long known that women sometimes experience multiple orgasms. Indeed, in their 1966 book entitled Human Sexual Response, William Masters and Virginia Johnson noted that:

“The human female frequently is not content with one orgasmic experience during episodes of [clitoral stimulation]…Many well-adjusted women enjoy a minimum of three of four orgasmic experiences before they reach apparent satiation.” (p. 64)

Of course, this is not necessarily true for all women. Some studies have found that close to half of the women surveyed have experienced multiple orgasms previously; the other half may not be physically capable of this, or they may not have tried to experience (or do not want to experience) more than one orgasm in a row. But what about men? Is it possible for guys to have multiple orgasms too?

The Science of Orgasms (VIDEO)

What happens inside your brain and body during an orgasm? A whole lot. Orgasm in both men and women is a heck of a lot more than just a few genital contractions.
