“I can’t help but notice that there’s a lot more squirting in porn lately. Why do straight guys suddenly seem so interested in watching women squirt?”

Why The New Diagnostic Guidelines For Premature Ejaculation Are A Step Backwards

Why The New Diagnostic Guidelines For Premature Ejaculation Are A Step Backwards

What exactly does it mean for a man to ejaculate “prematurely?” This has been a topic of considerable scientific debate for quite some time, with many arguing that the current classification criteria for premature ejaculation are vague and unclear. A new report just published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine attempts to remedy this by proposing what is supposedly an objective, evidence-based definition. However, I have some concerns that the new criteria may end up creating more problems than they solve.

15 Scientific Facts About Orgasm

15 Scientific Facts About Orgasm

Think you know everything there is to know about the topic of orgasm? For today’s post, I’ve compiled a list of 15 of the most fun and interesting scientific facts about the big O. Do you have other favorite orgasm facts? Please share them below!

1. Multiple orgasms are real. In fact, it is thought that most women are capable or having more than one orgasm in a row. Men can have multiple orgasms too, but this ability is rare and, among men who have it, it doesn’t seem to be quite as strong as it is for women. Consider this: the most orgasms documented in one hour is 134 for women and *just* 16 for men [1].

Can Men Have Multiple Orgasms Too?

Can Men Have Multiple Orgasms Too?

Scientists have long known that women sometimes experience multiple orgasms. Indeed, in their 1966 book entitled Human Sexual Response, William Masters and Virginia Johnson noted that:

“The human female frequently is not content with one orgasmic experience during episodes of [clitoral stimulation]…Many well-adjusted women enjoy a minimum of three of four orgasmic experiences before they reach apparent satiation.” (p. 64)

Of course, this is not necessarily true for all women. Some studies have found that close to half of the women surveyed have experienced multiple orgasms previously; the other half may not be physically capable of this, or they may not have tried to experience (or do not want to experience) more than one orgasm in a row. But what about men? Is it possible for guys to have multiple orgasms too?

Fact Check: Is The Reddit Guy With 2 Penises For Real?

Fact Check: Is The Reddit Guy With 2 Penises For Real?

I read a fascinating Ask Me Anything (AMA) on Reddit the other day entitled: “I am the guy with two penises.” It was written by a very sexually active man who claims to have been born with two “100% functional” penises (of which he posted some NSFW photos for the curious among us). After reading about his sexual exploits (including a seven-person orgy involving some acrobatic feats of coordination), relationship history (he's currently in a committed relationship with a man and woman), and what it was like for him to grow up with an extra penis, I couldn’t help but ask one question: “Is this for real, or just a clever story crafted by someone who is very good with Photoshop?” So, I did a bit digging into the medical literature to find out. Although my research cannot directly speak to the authenticity of this particular Reddit author and his life story, what I discovered is that having two functional penises is indeed possible and this would not be the first documented case.

Sex Question Friday: Should You Expect Your Partner To Orgasm During Sex?

Every Friday on the blog, I answer people’s questions about sex, love, and relationships. This week’s question comes from a reader who wanted to know whether it is reasonable to “expect” an orgasm from your partner every time you have sex.

Is it normal for women to expect orgasm (ejaculation) during intercourse from a male partner? And is it natural for men to expect orgasm during intercourse from a female partner?

What Is The Evolutionary Significance Of Cunnilingus?

I recently came across a journal article entitled Is Cunnilingus-Assisted Orgasm a Male Sperm-Retention Strategy? Naturally, I dropped everything I was doing and read it immediately--how could I not with a title like that? The researchers sought to test the novel hypothesis that, after ejaculation during intercourse, heterosexual men try to get their female partners to reach orgasm via oral sex in order to help them retain as much sperm as possible.1 To the extent that the female orgasm produces uterine contractions that draw sperm further into the reproductive tract, this would theoretically facilitate conception.  However, in order for the cunnilingus-assisted orgasm to serve this purpose, it would need to occur right around the man’s ejaculation (specifically, anywhere from one minute before to about 45 minutes after)—if her orgasm occurs sooner or later than that, it will not have a sperm-retaining effect.

Sex Question Friday: Do Men Fake Orgasms Too?

Every Friday on the blog, I answer people’s questions about sex, love, and relationships. This week’s question comes from a reader who wanted to know whether faking orgasms is something unique to women, or if guys do it too.

I had a rather lively conversation with some of my friends the other day about faking orgasms, with the general focus being the myth that men don't or can't fake orgasms. The conversation I had seemed to suggest that faking orgasms is not all that uncommon among men since everyone seemed to have at least one experience doing it, but obviously that is just my group of friends. So is faking orgasms a common experience for men?
