For those of you celebrating Thanksgiving this week, don't forget to be thankful for sex! Scientists have discovered that sex is linked a wide range of benefits for both body and mind. Below, I highlight just 7 of them; however, there are many, many more...
1. Studies have found that frequent orgasms are associated with better physical and psychological health. As if that's not enough, research has also found that frequent orgasms are linked to a longer lifespan !
2. Sex can be a great form of exercise. Specifically, research has found that, on average, young men burn 101 calories while young women burn 69 calories during the act. Of course, it would take a LOT of sex to burn off several plates of turkey and pie, but, hey--it's a more enjoyable form of exercise than running, right?
3. Having regular sex might be good for your brain. Consider this: rat studies have found that frequent sexual activity is associated with more neuron growth.
4. Just thinking about sex may have cognitive benefits, too. In fact, research has found that thinking about sex improves logical reasoning. That must be why all of my blog posts sound so smart...
5. Having sex relieves stress for couples. Yep, make-up sex really is that good.
6. You can enjoy the benefits of sex pretty much your entire life. Indeed, research finds that many adults age 70+ still have active sex lives. Yes, we slow down a little and experience more sexual difficulties as we age; however, there is no definitive end point when it comes to sex.
7. If you don't have a partner, don't despair--masturbation is linked to positive health outcomes too. Check out this video for a look at the research on self-love and health.
